Today’s featured artist is Mikaela with her submission titled “PCD Awareness”.
Pulmonary mucus clearance requires effective ciliary beat and proper mucus hydration. Clinical studies have shown that primary ciliary dyskinesia sputum is dehydrated—that is, hyperconcentrated, probably reflecting the requirement for ciliary motility to sense and regulate mucus hydration. These data suggest that the absence of proper mucus clearance in people with primary ciliary dyskinesia reflects both defective ciliary-dependent propulsion, and sensing and regulation of mucus hydration. - “Safety and efficacy of the epithelial sodium channel blocker idrevloride in people with primary ciliary dyskinesia (CLEAN-PCD): a multinational, phase 2, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial”
The PCD Artist Project is a collaborative effort by artist to raise awareness for PCD or primary ciliary dyskinesia and support the PCD Smiles program. Each artist who submitted art work to the project either has PCD or has a PCD friend or family member.
